Dusting Off the Cobwebs and Restarting

So, it’s been a while! Honestly, I got completely immersed in my jewelry making that I lost sight of this blog. But, a lot has happened in Lizville since I last posted. Let’s get started.

As I stated, I really plunged into making jewelry whole hog. I’ve made several earrings, bracelets and a few necklaces. I find that I’m pretty good at it, too! I love creating new and different pieces. I didn’t know I had this in me! I will be selling these locally, I just haven’t totally gotten that part down yet on how to do it. I don’t really want to sell online, although I have pictures of every piece I’ve made on my Instagram account. I’m thinking I’ll have a, Open House-type thing for the upcoming holidays. I need to make some more Christmas themed items first. Also, theres a couple of techniques I would like to learn that really look like fun to do, as well as being totally beautiful. I’ll get there!

I started out 2024 with covid. It was not fun but I survived. I lost my sense of taste an smell and I’m only now, slowly getting that back. It’s been rather sad not being able to enjoy meals.

Family has been down to visit from northern Illinois, which was awesome. We alsways have fun whenever we can get together.

I had been looking for a job since October of 2023. Nothing has turned up. I had one interview that went nowhere, and that’s it. I feel like these people look at my age and pass. No matter what they all say about Equal Opportunity Emplyment, they don’t always follow that. It’s a badge they wear to be PC but when it comes down to it, they don’t really follow it. And unless you have solid proof that they’ve passed you over because of age, you can’t do anything about it. Who will know for sure? So, my husband and I have decided to retire me and I’ll just make and sell my jewelry. It makes me happy anyway.

We’ve added to our family by one. In May, we adopted a beautiful, one-year old cockapoo and named her Sally Jane. She had a rough beginning. She was an owner surrender when the owner wanted to breed her (a BABY!!) and she didn’t “take”. So, we took her. She took quite a while to settle into her new home and family. I don’t know what happened to her, but she is afraid of everything. Especially men. Makes it difficult whenever my son and husband are home. I feel like she was never allowed to play because she doesn’t know how to. We have two other dogs in the house and she doesn’t know how to play with them. She is learning, though. We started her in puppy daycare along with the other two. She seems to really be thriving with their help. She’s beginning to play with her fur sister more. She still doesn’t know how to play with us. She’ll get there. She turned two in October and she’s a different dog than when we first got her. With love and patience, she’ll be the best dog ever.

I think this is enough, to start. I’ll be more consistant with my writing from here on out. But for now, keep on sparkling!!

  1. Welcome back! You’ve been missed. And bless you for rescuing Sally Jane. Give her time and she’ll learn to play and trust just be a happy doggo. Rescues from bad circumstances take more time and patience and very special people to take them on. Y’all are obviously special!

Do y’all have like a farmer’s market on weekends around there? I have a high school friend who weaves beautiful baskets and she goes to their Saturday market and sells from her “tail gate.” There are also craft shows around here that pop up, especially coming up on the holidays. Good luck with your jewelry! Sometimes, the peace of mind and sense of personal accomplishment and creative outlet is worth the belt tightening.

So sorry for the Covid. That sucks. As you know, I faced my own health issues at the beginning of the year and I’m just now getting to the point I feel “normal.”

I was very happy to see you pop up in my RSS feed this morning. I look forward to more of your posts! πŸ€—

    • Thank you for your kind words! I have thought about pop up craft shows. We have a lot of them around here, especially at the holiday season. It’s too late for me to sign up for any of those. However, we do have antique/ craft shops galore and I was thinking of renting a small space. I have a friend who works and has two booths at one of these shops, so I will ask her about setting up something there. Meanwhile, I’m having fun and I love creating. As I am now retired, it not only gives me something to do, but it motivates me and gives me something to look forward to ever day.

I’m so happy you are mending, physically. I hope to someday meet you!

      • Sometimes, those antique/craft “malls” (lots of booths under one roof) work well, especially if you have a friend already with a booth where you can display your wares. Good luck with it! And thanks. I just have to keep reminding myself that I’m older than I look and think and it takes this ol’ body longer to recover. LOL And yeah, it’d be cool to meet if we ever go east again or if y’all come west. πŸ˜‰
