To Retirement and Beyond!

It’s official! I am retired. After spending the past year and more trying to find a job, it appears no one wants to take a chance on someone my age. I get it. I was planning on retiring at 67 anyway. Who would want to spend the time and money to train me on a new job? I harbor no ill will, but I will say that EOE is a lie. Companies can slap that sticker all over their website all they want to, but the fact is, they can hide behind excuses like ‘we’ve decided to go in another direction,’ or ‘we’ve found someone with more qualifications than you, but thanks for applying.’ It all means ‘you’re too old and we do not want to hire an old person.’ And there’s no way to prove they’ve not hired me because of my age. They know that. So, it doesn’t matter how qualified I might be for the job available, I’m simply too old.

So, what comes next? Well, I still have my jewelry-making business that has not gotten off the ground, yet. Retirement only means that I will have more time to dedicate to that, and I love it. I’ll also be able to learn other techniques for some more beautiful jewelry.

I’ll be able to take more time to write and keep up with this blog. Who knows what that night lead to. But now I’m free to pursue whatever and wherever God leads. I’m looking forward to this new chapter in my life.

The future looks sparkly from where I’m sitting!

  1. I, too, took a while to fully stop trying to work (I retired from full-time work… good lord! is it really 14 years ago?) but my retirement occupation, after a couple of blind alleyways, seems to have resolved itself into scribbling (words, not pictures… Even my handwriting puts off spiders).

I’ll just have to stop spending so much if I run out of money (I need to eat less, anyway.)

    Welcome to retirement.

  2. Yeah…EOE is a myth. So is finding a job when you’re over-qualified for everything available. I don’t miss those days. Of course, being a writer doesn’t exactly pay the bills these days. At the same time, working for yourself is freeing so enjoy it! Many good wishes for your jewelry empire and your writing and blogging. There’s also a sense of relief that comes with this decision. Good on you for staying positive. 🥰
